TOR des GEANTS® (3rd edition): an extraordinary new challenge in the heart of the four giants of the Alps! One of the world's top endurance Trails. 330 km long, with a positive altitude difference of 24,000 metres, along the two Alte Vie routes in the Valle d'Aosta, from 9 to 16 September 2012 - Courmayeur, Italy. Entries snapped up in record time for the third edition of the Tor Des Géants®.

Aosta, 1 February 2012 - Endurance trail fans were fast off the starting blocks for entries to the latest edition of the Tor des Géants®, the most eagerly awaited race of the year, with a round-trip route totalling 330 km and a total climb of 24,000 metres, running right around the Valle d'Aosta region and past the foot of the four Giants of the Alps: Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn and the Gran Paradiso.

27 minutes was all it took for the maximum number of entries - this year 550 - to be reached, and the flood of successful entries coming simultaneously from all over the world, together with payment of the entry fee, led to overbooking on the IT system. After carrying out careful checks, the organisers have decided to hold as valid all entries completed correctly (i.e. with the entry fee paid and the entry confirmation e-mail received).

This response is a satisfying reward for the work carried out jointly by the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta and VDA Trailers, who devised and organised an event that has proved an international success, exceeding all expectations.

The Councilor for Tourism, Sport and Trade of the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta, Aurelio Marguerettaz, commented: «This response brings us immense joy. In just a few years the Tor has become a sporting encounter the Valle d'Aosta community is really beginning to feel its own, and it is an extraordinary opportunity for visitors to discover our splendid mountains, our products, our savoir faire and our great sense of humanity.
For all those involved in the race in various ways - be they volunteers or athletes - this is an exceptional experience, and the desire to transmit their experience to others is contagious».

The Tor des Géants®, scheduled this year for 9 - 16 September, is the most gruelling, most spectacular endurance trail in the world (330 km of mountain paths and a total climb of 24,000 metres). Once again this year, the list of entrants features runners from all over the planet. There are 26 countries represented, with trailers coming from Japan, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as France, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland and of course a large number of Italians keen to push themselves to the limit. As is customary, in addition to the official entrants, an invitation will be extended to the top three male and female runners from the 2011 edition.

 Those trailers who were unable to enter in time will have another chance to join the official list of entrants for the Tor des Géants® 2012; if any runners pull out, those on the waiting lists will be invited to replace them. 

Today, therefore, sees the start of training and race preparation for those runners who have made it over the first hurdle: the entry list. Both physical and mental training will be required in order to tackle what finishers say is - and remains -  first and foremost a great, one-off adventure.
